My experience & qualifications:
I qualified in BMus Honours, specialising in violin, from King's College London in 2002. I have completed Level 1 of the Suzuki violin teacher training, Phase IIB of the Colourstrings violin teacher training and Level II of the Colourstrings music kindergarten teacher training. I have also completed the Foundation year in the Dalcroze certificate course.
I teach Colourstrings violin and viola at Dulwich College and DUCKs (Dulwich College Kindergarten) and at Colourstrings Music School, Kingston. I teach violin, piano in private practice.
I qualified as an Alexander Technique teacher in 2007 on completion of the three year teacher training course at the Alexander Technique Studio in South West London. I taught on the AT Studio teacher training course for 8 and a half years and I also taught music scholars at Bryanston School, Dorset for three years. I currently teach the Alexander Technique in private practice.
During my secondary school I started to have panic attacks which became worse and more frequent throughout university so that I was having panic attacks during violin lessons, performances and in choir rehearsals and concerts. I started having Alexander Technique lessons two to three times a week while I was at university which helped me to manage the panic attacks; they gradually became less frequent and severe. I then decided to save up to train as an Alexander Technique teacher after finishing my music degree, because, alongside giving me skills in managing my panic attacks, I found the Technique was helping me to play the violin with more ease and to feel generally more connected, balanced and aware of myself in ways that not only helped my music making but most of all helped me.
I use the Alexander Technique in my music teaching to bring awareness and development of good use to the activity of learning an instrument; this helps my pupils learn to play with greater physical ease and enjoyment.
I am a member of the Society for Teachers of the Alexander Technique and the Incorporated Society of Musicians. I hold an up-to-date DBS certificate.
